Welcome to our vacation home! The 24 acres that it rests on were originally part of the "Nansen Anderson Homestead". We bought these lush, magical acres from Ron Anderson in 1983 and have gradually been doing improvements ever since. The house itself was a 'gift' from neighbors and it used to sit close to the mouth of the Hoh River. We moved it to the property in 1984 and even though it's a quaint, older, cottage-style home, it's clean and very welcoming --we've loved it well! There is a wonderful rambling creek on the property and the water is from a spring-fed well.
The Hoh River Valley is part of the Rain Forest and is a mecca for hiking, beach combing and exploring. And of course, we're near the Olympic National Park entrance that leads into the Olympic Mountains. La Push and Kalaloch are prime northwest surfing areas and the beaches by Kalaloch provide excellent clamming when in season. The property is ideally located near many excellent hunting and fishing areas which makes it ideal for a hunting or fishing trip plus there is plenty of room for boat trailers.
The gazebo and large, grassy yard are perfect for a wonderful dinner outside or play area for the children. We now have 3/4 mile of well maintained and well marked trails on the property .Guests tell me they had no need to go to the actual Rain Forest in the ONP. There is a marked trail to the creek on the property, and it's good to stay on the trail so you don't get lost. We've taken time to name many of the local plants and you'll see several markers around the property. There's even a "Seek & Find" quiz for anyone who's interested in really learning about the native plant life.
And yes, wildlife abounds not only in the local area but right on the property. You'll often see elk and deer in the yard, eagles, hawks, blue jays and oh, look out for the mountain beaver holes and the moles think they own the place!
The house has 2 bedrooms and one bath with a queen bed in the main bedroom, 2 single beds in the second bedroom, a deluxe, full-size futon in the Living Room and extra sleeping pads for children. There is a washer & dryer, a small, well-supplied kitchen and quaint dining area plus a deck. The house has wireless internet, a phone for emergencies or local calls, TV with VCR and DVD's. Sorry, no cable. Outside, you'll find the gazebo, a gas Bar-B-Que and firepit with plenty of firewood. Fire restrictions vary from month to month and they will be posted, so please read and follow them while you're visiting. This is a non-smoking house, too so smoke outside only, thank you!
Children and dogs are allowed but please supervise them at all times. Rules for dogs are posted in the house and we ask that you make sure that your canine friend is well-cleaned and dry before re-entering the house - we will provide you with plenty of dog towels.
So that's our little hideaway in the Hoh Valley. We hope you'll make many new & magical memories here. Please return often.
